 NORWICH – Marjorie S. Chomyszak, 78, former Mayor of Norwich and local school teacher, passed away peacefully at the Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation in Binghamton on Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, 2006.
 Born in Binghamton on Jan. 17, 1928, she was the daughter of Floyd C. and Blanch E. Love Stark. Marjorie graduated from North High School in Binghamton in 1946, and attended Oneonta State Teacher’s College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. She was a school teacher, retiring from the Norwich School system in 1988.
 On May 7, 1960 in the First Methodist Church in Oneonta, she married John G. (Jerry) Chomyszak, who survives. Also surviving are her two sons, F. Brent Chomyszak and Tanya, his wife, and Jeffrey P. Chomyszak; a grandson, Daniel Chomyszak; two step-children, John B. Chomyszak and Pamela J. Chomyszak.  She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Stowell and husband William, and Jane Stanley and her husband Melvin, and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie served as the mayor of Norwich from 1988 to 1992, after her retirement from teaching. In that post she was instrumental in bringing SUNY Morrisville to Norwich. She also sang with the Triple Cities Opera during its formative years.  Marjorie was a member of the third EMT class to graduate in New York State, and was a member of the National Ski patrol for thirteen years. She was active in the local Retired teachers Association and was Charter president of the Chenango County Council of the Arts.
Her hobbies included reading and playing the piano.
Funeral services for Marjorie will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, with Rev. Glenn Mahaffey officiating. Friends may call at the Parish Hall of the Church on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Donations in remembrance of Marjorie may be made to the Chenango County Council of the Arts, 27 West Main St, Norwich, NY 13815, or to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, W. Main St, Norwich.
