Marian Burlison


NORWICH – Marian Sharpe Burlison, age 87, passed away in Cresent City, Calif. on March 12, 2009.
Marian was born in Norwich on Feb. 16, 1922, the daughter of Marion and Edwin Wagner Sharpe Jr. Marian graduated from Norwich High School in 1939.
She was a member of the ladies auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Moose Lodge, and Senior Citizens League. Marian was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Marian worked as the assistant to the president of the then Continental Telephone Corporation in Norwich and retired after 25 years of service. She also worked at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
In 1981 she moved to Ontario, Calif., and later north to Cresent City, Calif. Marian was an avid reader, enjoyed the outdoors, and with her good friend and life companion, Howard ‘Joe’ Morley, made numerous fishing, hunting and traveling excursions.
Marian was a proud descendant of Daniel and Louise Wagner, Norwich residents and nationally recognized 19th century artists whose paintings can be found in Norwich’s library, historical museum, and in many local residents’ homes as well as in national museums.
She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Sharpe of Cresent City, Calif.; three sons, Barry Burlison of Brush Prairie, Wash., Robert Burlison of Warwick, and Brian Burlison of Cresent City, Calif. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Deidre Frank, Katy Krueger, Bryan Burlison, Rob Burlison, Darrell Burlison, Greg Burlison, Jennifer Burlison and Gary Burlison. There are also eight great grandchildren, Sophie, Rob Jr., Marco, Skyler, Paige, Dominic, Brenden and Maya.
She was predeceased by her brother, Edwin Sharpe III.
Marian Ruth was a warm, beautiful and strong woman. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
It was Marian’s wish that there be no funeral service or calling hours. Interment will be private.
