Josephine Mirabito


NORWICH – Josephine Mirabito, 95, of Rowley Avenue, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born March 19, 1914 in Waltham, Mass., Josephine was the daughter of Felix and Giovanna (Ravesi) Scarfarella. She spent her early years in Italy and in 1940 married Joseph Mirabito who died on Jan. 31, 1943. She came to the United States in 1947 and took up residence on Rowley Avenue in Norwich with her uncle, Joseph S. Mirabito. She worked as a sewing machine operator at the former Norwich Knitting Mill.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church.
Josephine is survived by two grandchildren, Susan Mirabito and Lee Mirabito; a sister, Rosina Brundu of Messina, Italy and several nieces and nephews, including Fred Mirabito of Norwich and her lifelong friend, Aurora Raccuia of Norwich.  She was predeceased by a son, John Mirabito in 1977 and a brother, Joseph Cafaella in Australia.
A Mass of Resurrection for Josephine will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.  There will be no calling hours.
Contributions in memory of Josephine may be made to the Msgr. Festa Scholarship Fund or to the Memorial Fund of St. Bartholomew’s Church.
