Charles Mack

NORWICH – Charles A. “Charlie” Mack, 77, of Norwich, passed away Sunday morning, April 19, 2009, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The son of Truman and Bertha Charles Mack, Charlie was born in Sidney Center in March of 1932. Growing up in Sidney Center, he attended and graduated from the Sidney Central School. On November 7, 1954, in Walton, Charlie married Katharine Baker. The Macks resided in Walton for numerous years while Charlie continued his lengthy career for Breakstone, as a truck driver, “pushin 18-wheelers”. After leaving that employment, Charlie and Katharine owned and operated their own business, the Lazy R. Ranch. In 1984, they moved to Norwich and Charlie went back to driving for about ten years, this time for CDI (Central Diagnostic Imaging) of Norwich, taking their mobile scanning unit to various hospitals. When not driving trucks, Charlie was an avid poker player who enjoyed the games with his buddies, commenting that “it reduced stress”. He was a fellow who like to travel, watch horse races, listen to big band music and Lawrence Welk, and watch old time movies. He was also a talented carpenter.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Katharine Mack of Norwich; by his children and their spouses: Wendy and David Gossage of Jacksonville, Fla., and David and Kim Mack of Norwich; by grandsons Dustin Bowker and wife, Jennifer of Raleigh, N.C., and Dylan Mack of Norwich; and great-granddaughter, Destiny Bowker.
Funeral services for Charlie will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Charlie’s name may be sent to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 East Main St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
