Raymond Adams


HOLMESVILLE – Saturday, April 4, 2009, Raymond Nelson Adams of Canton, Penn, formerly of Holmesville, passed away quietly at his daughter’s residence. He was 77. Born in Hubbardsville, NY on Nov. 24, 1931, he was the son of Herman and Electa (Albro) Adams. Raymond was a man with a strong work ethic, and in his youth worked on various farms in the area. At South New Berlin High School, he excelled at sports and served as captain of the basketball team. He was also known on the pitcher’s mound for his fast ball, and was approached by scouts from the Boston Red Sox. However, he never went to the tryout, putting his job and family responsibilities first. Raymond served our country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. In civilian life, he worked as a carpenter with Olsen Construction from the early 1950s until the early 1980s. Later, he worked as a mechanic servicing dry cleaning equipment until 1993 when he became disabled. Raymond was also a Ham radio operator and a member of the Columbus Community Church. By November of 2008, his health had deteriorated, and he moved in with his daughter and her husband in Canton.
Raymond is survived by his daughters Regina (Terry) Richard and Brenda Adams (Bruce Jamison) all of Canton, Lucinda (Scott) Maine of Brookfield, brother Herman “Russ” (Freda) Adams of New Berlin, sister Maxine Keefe of Sherburne, as well as seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia A. (Frayer) Adams and his brother Ralph Adams.
Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Columbus Community Church. Services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen Reese officiating. Interment will be in the South Brookfield Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Canton, Penn.
