Robert Niles


LEBANON – Robert R. “Bob” Niles, 69, of Bradley Brook Rd., passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born Feb. 2, 1940 in Georgetown, a son of Merle and Florence Eaton Niles. He received his early education in Lebanon schools and was a graduate of Earlville High School. On June 3, 1961, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Helen Shaul in Earlville. A life long area resident, Bob had worked as the General Highway Superintendent for the Madison County Highway Department in Morrisville for 38 years until his retirement. He served as the Supervisor of the Town of Lebanon for one year, and also as Town Councilman until he became ill. Bob was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bowling and golf were also among his favorite pastimes. In recent years, a big part of his life was spent watching his grandson, Michael, play baseball and bowl.
Surviving is Helen, his wife of 47 years; a daughter Robin Wilson and Alex Hodge of Earlville; a sister and brother-in-law, Gay and Wayne Groves of Earlville; three brothers, Bill and Lois Niles of New Hampshire; Deland Niles and Darwin Niles, both of Earlville; his grandchildren, Michael Wilson, Jr. and Justin Hodge of Earlville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law Michael Wilson, Sr. and a nephew, Darwin Niles, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, followed by interment in the Earlville Cemetery .
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m.
