Margit Connors


HAMILTON – Margit A. Connors, 68, of Smith Rd., beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Hartford, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 10, 1941 in Frankfort, Germany, a daughter of Victor and Gertrud Olig Parker. The family immigrated to the United States at the end of World War II when she was 7 years old, where she lived in New York City as a child, moving to Syracuse as a teenager. Margit was a graduate of SUNY Oswego and Syracuse University. She was a teacher of special education for 28 years in several area schools, retiring from the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District in 1996. During her career, she was a special gift to many children. On June 23, 1961, Margit was united in marriage to Joseph F. Connors in Oswego.
Mrs. Connors was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton.
Surviving is Joseph, her husband of nearly 48 years; her mother, Gertrud Parker of Southington, CT; her son, Matthew Connors of Hamilton; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Kevin Hardke of Cazenovia; two granddaughters, Rachel and Alexa Hardke of Cazenovia; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Robert) Anderson of Oswego and Patricia Switzer of Glenmont; a brother-in-law, Edward Connors of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church, Wylie St., Hamilton.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 3:45.
