NORWICH – James Burr Gallagher, 89, of Norwich, passed away March 19, 2009 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford. 
He was a devoted husband and beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was the loving husband of Olga Gallagher.
Jim was born in Buffalo on June 18, 1919.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Rene Gallagher. After graduating from high school he went to electrical engineering school in Washington, D.C. Jim served in the Marines and the Army Air Corps. After returning home from the service he held a variety of positions, the last supervising the Norwich Waste Disposal System.
After retiring Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture for many Norwich residents.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Joseph Gallagher, his sister Rita Kuykendal and his daughter Jacqueline Gallagher.
James is survived by his wife Olga, son James H., daughter Rita Flyzik, grandsons Mathew and Philip Giltner, granddaughters Stefanie Hannan and Amy Bernardo, great grandsons Sheehan and Sky Hannan and great granddaughter Hannah Giltner.
A private graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Oxford.
