Doris Halbert


JOHNSON CITY – Doris Halbert, 76, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, James and Rachel Shepard; her sisters, Lenore Polera, Eveline Sprague and Marjorie Hotaling; and her brothers, Gordon, Gerald, and Loren Shepard.
She is survived by her husband, Jay; her three children, Jerry Halbert, Vicky Halbert and Lonnie Schuyltz; two grandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Bowerman and DJ (Connie) Perry and one great grandchild, Jordan Perry. Doris is also survived by her sisters, Pearl Moore and Diana Carlon; her brother, Jimmie Shepard and her brother-in-law James (Margaret) Halbert along with many nieces and nephews.
After spending her early adult years in South Otselic raising her family, she moved to Tulare, Calif. in 1984 where she worked as a secretary for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. She returned to Johnson City in 2006, and resided at United Methodist Homes’ Hilltop Campus with her husband. Our sincere thanks to Drs. Struck and Yalamachili and the caring staff at James G. Johnson for their professional and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the United Methodist Homes’ Hilltop Campus, with Rev. Janet Abel officiating. Memorial contributions are requested in lieu of flowers to United Methodist Homes’ Hilltop Campus, 286 Deyo Hill Road, Johnson City, NY 13790.
Arrangements are by the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Johnson City.
