Carol Tollison

NORWICH – Carol Charmaine Joy Tollison, 80, of Norwich, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family, on March 6, 2009.
A giving, gentle healer who was employed as a registered nurse by Dr. Martin Jacobi and later worked as a hospice nurse for Chenango Memorial Hospital, Carol was the daughter of Stockard Franklin and Matilda “Naomi” Carpenter Sturn Coffee.
She was born in Denver, Colo. in March of 1928. On Sept, 29, 1946, she married her first husband, Harold Kimble Joy, sharing his life for 50 years. Carol was a gifted dancer who, partnered with Harold, won numerous trophies in competitions. Following Harold’s passing, Carol was married for a brief time to Homer J. Tollison of Arizona, who also predeceased her. Carol’s “baby” brother, Robert Arthur Sturn, was a bombadier navigator who died in service at the age of 20, and she was also predeceased by her sister, Violet Sturn and her son, Kerry Joy.
Surviving are Carol’s children and their spouses: Kevin and Cher Joy, Brian and Rosie, Patrick and Glenanne, Christopher, Cherie Joy, Kimberly and Al Albrecht, Alyson and Tammie Joy; by 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, her sister Patricia Tobin of Arizonia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
An informal commemerative service will be held at the VFW in Norwich on Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m.
As Carol was a lifelong animal lover, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
