Marion Parker

McDONOUGH – Marion D. Parker, 76, long time McDonough resident, passed away Saturday evening, March 14, 2009, in the Binghamton General Hospital following a brief illness.
The daughter of Julian and Jessie Wilcox MacLaury, Marion was born in 1932 in Norwich. She grew up in the Oxford area and was a graduate of the Oxford High School. On Dec. 30, 1951 in Oxford, she married Richard Parker, who survives. Following her marriage, she and her husband lived for a brief time in McGraw before moving to the McDonough area where they continued to make their home. Over the years, Marion had worked for the Crescent Corset Factory, the Norwich Knitting Mill and the Norwich Shoe Company.
Marion was without question a family person. She could often be found at one of the sporting events of her children or grandchildren and she never missed a birthday or holiday. Whether it was softball, soccer, basketball, band concerts, etc. she was there. Marion also loved to tell jokes and play pranks on other people. Over the years, she and her husband would frequent town board meetings and it was also her job to keep Richard in line. They also enjoyed going to local senior citizen dinners and play cards.
Marion is survived by her husband Richard of McDonough; her daughters, Cathy (Randy) Ingraham of McDonough and Carol Sayles of East Pharsalia; her grandchildren: Richard Ingraham and companion Joanne, Todd (Amy) Ingraham, Michael Ingraham, Andrea (Mark) Schmidt, Jackie Sayles and companion Mark Rogers and Lisa (Collin) Nesbitt. Also surviving are her great grandchildren Katelyn, Sean, Alyssa and Brooke and her brother Richard (Esther) MacLaury of South Otselic along with many nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her sisters Elsie Burkholder, Norma Houghtaling and Louise MacLaury, and her brothers Alfred MacLaury, Julian MacLaury, Ronald MacLaury and Charles MacLaury.
Memorial services for Marion will be held at noon on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Her nephew Jerry Sayles and great nephew Jason Sayles will officiate. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon on Thursday.
