Thomas Delaney Sr.


GILBERTSVILLE – Thomas Michael Delaney Sr., 73, of Gilbertsville, went to be in the arms of the Lord on Monday March 9, 2009. He was surrounded by his loving and devoted family.
He was born April 30, 1935 on the family farm in Greene. Thomas attended Towslee Rural School, town of Greene and Greene Central School. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, serving on the U.S.S. Brownson during the Korean War. While in service, he made several trips around the world, crossing the equator and the International Dateline, and stopping in ports of call in Europe and Asia.  He was honorably and medically discharged in 1961. Upon his discharge, he worked for General Baking Company, Cushman Baking Company and Levine Distributors in Norwich, Conn. In 1973, he and his family moved back to Greene, where he became a sales representative for Canada Dry Company and was named Salesman of the Year in 1975. In 1985 he purchased Lake Clear Wabbler, a fishing lure manufacturing company, which he owned and operated in Gilbertsville. Upon his retirement, Thomas and his wife enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona. Thomas was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Taftville, Conn. and Sidney and the American Legion Post #1339 in Gilbertsville.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anita (Lemire) Delaney, who he was married to on July 27, 1957 in Occum, Conn. He is also survived by three children: Thomas M. Delaney Jr. and his wife Bernadette of Gilbertsville, Suzanne Delaney of Albany, and Catherine Bishop and her husband Marc of Martinsburg, West Virginia; seven grandchildren: Felicia, Joshua, Samantha, Gregory, Zackery, Matthew, and Jade; his sister Mary and her husband Roger Wilcox of Haines City, Fla.; his brother James Delaney of Greene; his sister Catherine McDonald of McGraw; his brother James Delaney of Greene; his brother Martin Delaney and his wife Marion of Greene; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.  
Thomas was predeceased by his parents James and Mary (Sykora) Delaney of Greene; his brother-in-Law John McDonald; his sister-in-law Priscilla (Taylor) Delaney and a nephew, Michael McDonald.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m.  at the Sacred Heart R.C Church in Sidney,with Msgr. James Cox officiating.  
Committal services  with Military honors will be held at a later date at St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery, in Whitney Point.
