Jean Cummings


SIDNEY – Jean M. Cummings, 72, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
Jean was born on July 31, 1936 in Binghamton, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mae (Newcomb) Andrews. She was married to Ralph H. Cummings in 1950. He predeceased her on Jan. 2, 1983.
She was a former employee of MeadWestVaco, Inc. of Sidney, an avid animal lover and cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was a member of the Sidney Fire Department Auxiliary, the Southern Cruiser’s Motorcycle Club of Binghamton and the Hudson Highlanders Motorcycle Club of Oneonta.
Jean is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Donna Cummings of Gates, N.C. and David and Patricia Cummings of Sidney; her daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Douglas Moore, Jr. of Oxford and Cathy and Martin Simpson of Spotsylvania, Va.; her loving companion of many years, George Monroe, Sr. of Sidney; and her grandchildren, Jason Golden, Jeffrey Golden, Heather and Cortney Cummings, Darren Golden, Heath Cummings, Michelle Moore and Ashley Simpson along with several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at the Westcott Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht of Otego officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford. Friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Inc., Unadilla.
