SMYRNA – Marla Ferris Campbell, 71, died at her home on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, with loving family around her.
Born on November 7, 1937 in Lebanon, Marla was the youngest of 12 children of Floyd and Clara Baker Ferris. She graduated from Sherburne High School in 1955, with her future husband, William Campbell. William and Marla were married on May 25, 1957. Their loving union of 33 years ended with William’s death. Marla worked at the telephone company, as well as TACO, and then at Procter and Gamble for 21 years. She led a long and fruitful life with a lot of different pursuits. One of her favorite past times was reading many books at her home on her big mountain. She also did many other things such as assisting with the Smyrna Fire Department chicken barbecues and making candy and cream at the family maple syrup business. She was always actively involved with her family’s pastimes, as she enjoyed watching her sons wrestle, her daughter play softball, and going to her son’s comic book conventions.
There wasn’t anything Marla wouldn’t do for her family and friends. She would always speak her mind, and when she thought something was wrong she let you know about it. Marla will surely be missed by her friends and family alike.
Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dean of Smyrna; Scott and Nancy of East Freetown, Mass.; and Todd of Smyrna; a daughter, Amy Klein and Gary Fuess of Madison; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Emma Tredway of Waterville; Arlene (Toots) and Leonard Jones of North Norwich; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of her family with burial in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Smyrna Fire Department or the Smyrna Emergency Squad.
