SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Richard “Dick” Pratt, 86, formerly of South New Berlin, passed away early Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 2009 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
He was born in Schenevus, the son of Bert and Nina Davidson Pratt.
Dick was a graduate of Harpursville High School. After graduating he began his career with the New York State Department of Conservation. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. In 1978, he retired as District Forest Ranger in Sherburne after 32 years of service. He had been a resident of South New Berlin since the late 1940s, where he was active in the South New Berlin Baptist Church, a former commissioner for the South New Berlin Fire Department, and was active in the Funeral Honor Guard Detail of the South New Berlin American Legion.
On May 28, 1944, Dick married the former Edna Livermore in Quaquaga. Edna passed away on Dec. 17, 1999.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Carol Pratt of Tuscon, Ariz.; one brother, David Pratt and his wife Marie of Unadilla; also many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his sisters, Joyce Hurlburt and Laura Delaney and by his brother, Donald Pratt.
Graveside services will be held at the Ninevah Cemetery in the spring.
Funeral services are under the direction of the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich.
