Marie Goodrich


NORWICH – Marie L. Goodrich, 69, of Norwich, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at her home.
Born in North Norwich in July of 1939, Marie was the daughter of Edward E. and Bernice C. Maine Law. On June 23, 1979, she married Bert A. Goodrich, who died June 24, 1979.
Most would know Marie from the various restaurants she worked in. She operated the Red Lantern for some time, closing due to bad health. She also cooked at the Globe Hotel for the owners, Ray and Marianne Smith. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2782 in Norwich, and was known to many people for her functions with the M.O.C.A. Organization of that Post. She and her husband’s band, The Country Hearts, spent many hours entertaining at various nursing homes in this and surrounding areas.
Marie is survived by her children and their spouses: Roberta Morris of Norwich, Terrie and Tom Owens of Morganton, N.C., Sandra and Gary Follett of Norwich, and Robert Slater and companion Crystal Marango of Norwich. She is also survived by the grandchildren she loved so dearly: Stacy Slater, Brandon Davis, Allen Marple, Amber Morris, Devin and Alisha Slater, Morgan Taylor Owens and Miranda Law; by her sister, Donna Wisnoski and husband Gerald of Florence, S.C.; and her former husband, Robert L. Slater of Norwich; plus nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her grandson, James Nicholas Thomas.
Graveside services for Marie will be held in the spring in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich, for her family and those who wish to attend. There will be no calling hours. Those wishing to remember Marie may do so by contributing to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 E. Main St., Norwich NY 13815 or to a charity of their choice.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich.
