Wilbur Smith


OXFORD – Wilbur R. Smith, 90, formerly of Oxford, passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at the Susquehanna Nursing Center, Binghamton.
He was born on April 6, 1916 in Waverly, the son of the late Frank and Lelah (Wiggins) Smith. On Aug. 16, 1938 in Waverly, he married Betty Crum, who passed away in 1979.
He is survived by his children, Robert and Patricia Smith of Sidney and Sharon and David White of Greene; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Ione Smith of Florida; his grandchildren: Jeff White and children, Cody and Ciara; Sherry and James Kehl and children, Ashley and Trevor; Clifford and Sarah White, Cynthia and Tyler Wilson, Kisten and Anthony Giglio and children, Talon, Tambria and Matthew; and Daniel and Tonia Smith and son Owen. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his sisters, Florence (Lee) Spencer and Marjorie Harvey.
Wilbur was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre and in the Pacific Fleet. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a former member of the Bainbridge Masonic Lodge. He retired from the Norwich Pharmacal Co.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Greene, with the Rev. Penney Rahm officiating.
Friends may call at the First United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday.
The Kennedy Funeral Home, 21 N. Chenango St., Greene, is providing assistance for the family.
