SIDNEY – Alice H. Sergio, 90, of Sidney, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 20, 2009 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford. 
Alice was born on Oct. 29, 1918, daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Brown) Holley in Walton. She was a graduate of Walton High School Class of 1936 and SUNY Oneonta in 1939, receiving her Bachelors Degree in Education.  Alice was a teacher for both Walton and Downsville schools, but the majority of her career was spent teaching at Sidney Elementary School, where she retired from in 1978 after 40 years.  On June 27, 1943, Alice married Joseph Sergio in Walton.  He predeceased her on Dec. 30, 1985.  Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sidney and was active in numerous organizations within her church.  She was also a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Assocation.  Alice was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother; she will be greatly missed.
Alice is survived by: two sons:  James and Gail Sergio of Oxford and Gary Sergio and Claudia Jenkins of Sidney; one granddaughter,  Kristen and Darron Stanton of  Oxford; two grandsons:  Joseph Sergio of Rochester and Robert and Stacy Benton of East St. Louis, Ill.; one great-grandson, Nicholas Benton; two sisters:  Roberta and Joseph Kistner of Walton and Hazel Gray of Canajoharie; one brother,  James and Peg Holley of Walton. In addition to her husband, Alice is predeceased by a brother, Hilton Holley.
 Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main Street Sidney, NY 13838. 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church of Sidney, 12 Liberty St. Sidney, with Rev. Barbara Green, pastor officiating.  Burial will take place in the spring at Walton Cemetery, Walton. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to the Sidney United Methodist Church, or to the Patient Care Fund, c/o NYS Veterans’ Home 4211 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830.
