Kenneth Daviau


 NORWICH – Kenneth (Ken) John Daviau, 84, of New Freedom, PA and formerly of Norwich, passed away Feb. 14, 2009 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, Md.
The son of Norman and Anna, he was born March 15, 1924 in Utica, as the noon whistle blew. He graduated from Sherburne High School (NY) in 1942 where he enjoyed playing varsity level football, basketball and baseball throughout his high school career. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943 during World War II and was stationed in Newfoundland as a weather observer until 1947. He worked at the Grand Union in Sherburne for several years before he became a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Norwich, from which he retired after 25 years of service.  He was a member for many years and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne. He enjoyed bowling in leagues and also spent many hours golfing and fishing with family and friends.
Ken is survived by his children Amy Brockner and husband, Kevin of Ferndale, Anita Maliga and husband, Terence of Cazenovia, and son Robert Daviau and wife, Jonelle of New Freedom, Pa.; grandchildren, Thomas Barkley, Sean, Morgan and Addison Maliga, Ethan and Greyson Daviau; step-grandchild, Nicholas Brockner; aunt, Gladys Northup; and nephews John and Thomas Daviau  and their families.  He was predeceased by his brother Edmond Daviau on Sept. 17, 2006.
Calling hours will be held from 111 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne. A memorial service will immediately follow.
