John Frink


NORWICH – John Paul Frink, 84, of Norwich, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford.
The son of Claude and Emily (McCulloch) Frink, John was born on March 25, 1924 in Norwich.
After attending Norwich schools, John joined the United States Army on Dec. 7, 1942, where he continued his education and received his high school diploma. During his time in the Army, John worked as a truck driver and a medical supply and parts specialist, eventually obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. John received numerous medals, including the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and many others. He was stationed for many years in Germany and spent time in places such as Central Europe, Northern France and Vietnam. Upon his retirement from the Army after 20 years of service, John returned to Norwich. A quiet man of simple needs, John spent much of his time with family and close friends.
John is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Betty Frink of Norwich; a sister, Leona Frink of Woodside; several nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Catherine LoGerfo. He is predeceased by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta (Carl) Law, Viola (Milton) Berka and Jessie Tucker Tuttle; nieces, Sandy Tucker and Beverly Frink and nephew, Richard Fink.
The family of John Paul Frink wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the New York State Veterans’ Home for all the care he received during his residency.
Funeral services for John will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 North Broad St., Norwich, with Rev. Ralph Osborne officiating. Spring interment with full military rites will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Norwich at the family’s convenience.
