Nikodem Tumilowicz

NORWICH – Nikodem “Nick” Tumilowicz, 83, well known area dairy farmer, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 5, 2009 in the Gilmour Health Care Facility.
The son of Albin and Margaret Savecka Tumilowicz, Nick was born in September of 1925 in Poland. He grew up in Poland and was a member of the Polish British Army. In 1952, Nick came to the United States and found employment as a machinist in Queens. While living in New York City, he met and married Laura Wolter Tumilowicz in 1954, who passed away Nov. 16, 2008. In September of 1958, Nick and Laura came to Norwich where they purchased a farm on the Burdick Medbury Road. Over the years with hard work and dedication, they built the farm into a very beautiful and prosperous farm. Several years ago the farm earned the title of “Dairy of Distinction” and is today operated by his sons and their families.
Nick was a man with a heart as big as the whole outdoors. He enjoyed helping people almost to a fault and would give them his last penny if needed. In later years, Nick became well known at local cattle auctions where he would buy and sell cows. Aside for the farm, Nick was also very involved in the Mt. Upton and Norwich Lions Club and was a charter member of the Norwich Club. Over the years his dedication and endless energy helped the club prosper. He could always be found at any of their events working hard as he did on the farm.
Nick is survived by his children: Lili Tumilowicz-Headley and her husband Ronald of Elmira, Robert (Valerie) Tumilowicz of Norwich and Henry (Darlene) Tumilowicz also of Norwich; his grandchildren, Adam and Alex Tumilowicz, Lita and Nikkolas DiPetta, Danielle Tumilowicz, Henry Tumilowicz, Jr., Samantha Tumilowicz and Amanda Tumilowicz. Also surviving are his brothers, August Tumilowicz of England and Adam Tumilowicz of Russia.
Graveside services for Nick will be held in the spring from the Maplewood Cemetery of Mt. Upton.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Please consider memorial contributions to the Norwich Lions Club, c/o Tom Russell, Treas., 728 State Highway 320, Norwich, NY 13815.
