Carl Utter


EAST MEREDITH – Carl E. Utter, 80 of East Meredith and formerly of Morris, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at Albany Medical Center.
He was born Nove. 23, 1925 in Schenevus, the son of William Utter and Ruby (Ritchie) Utter. He served his country during World War II in the United States Coast Guard. He married Georgia (Betty) Smith on June 13, 1947 in Davenport. Betty passed away on Nov. 9, 2003. Carl was the custodian at Morris Central School for over 20 years. 
He was an avid camper and traveler. He and Betty had visited every state in the union except Hawaii. He also enjoyed golfing. For the past 16 years he spent his summers in East Meredith and his winters in Lake Bryant, Oklawaha, Fla. when they were not traveling.
Carl is survived by his four sons, Paul Utter and wife Christine of Norwich, Phillip Utter and wife Brenda of Morris, Timothy Utter and wife Jeanette of Morris, NY, and Daniel Utter and wife Tricia of Oxford. His grandchildren, Bruce Utter and wife Kelly of Saugerties, Jennifer Heston and husband David of Livonia, Mich. Kyle, Joey and Justin Utter of Morris, Megan Law and husband Allan of Sherburne, Dylan and Tiffany Utter of Norwich. He was blessed by his four great-grandchildren, Dustin and Carly Utter and Tess and Kate Heston. He is also survived by his three sisters, Frances All of Oneonta, and Louise Jacobsen Breffle and husband Jack of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Thelma Forrester of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a brother, Leland Utter of Bandera, Texas.
There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be held at the Johnston Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Sara Baron officiating. Interment will be private in the Schenevus Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers friends are asked to donate to the East Meredith First Responder’s, c/o of the East Meredith Fire Dept., East Meredith, NY 13757.
