NORWICH – Anita E. Smith Foote, 97, of Norwich, and former longtime Guilford resident, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at her home in Norwich.
The daughter of Herbert and Grace Zoerb Foote, Anita was born in July of 1911 in Guilford. She grew up in Guilford, where she attended the local schools. Over the years, she had worked for the Scintilla in Sidney, the Norwich Knitting Mill, the Norwich Shoe Company and also had worked in the area as a waitress. On Oct. 27, 1931 in Chenango Bridge, she married Jesse Foote, who passed away Sept. 21, 1981.
Anita was a lady who would not let any grass grow under her feet. She enjoyed a good time, going out with friends and loved to dance. In general, she loved life.
Anita is survived by her children: Shirley Brown of Bainbridge; Beverly (Greg) Moore, Kay Richardson and Leon (Gloria) Foote, all of Norwich; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Jesse, Anita was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie Tripp and her brothers, Wayne, Paul and Morrell Smith.
A funeral service for Anita will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Bergin, interim pastor of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:30 until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m.
