Joanne Peterson


McDONOUGH – Joanne M. Peterson, 60, of McDonough, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.
Joanne was born in Oxford on Dec. 21, 1948, a daughter of George Riley Howe, Sr. and the late Lenora Hurlburt Howe. She was a former member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in McDonough and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oxford. She attended the German Baptist Church. She worked at Gilbert’s Machine and Tool prior to its closing. She was a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross and a member of the Red Cross in Norwich. She was a member and past secretary of the South Otselic Fire Department and a member of the emergency squad. She also served as the former Town Clerk of McDonough and worked at the Oxford School cafeteria.
In addition to her father, Riley G. Howe of McDonough, she is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bruce Peterson, Sr., of McDonough; her children, Lisa (Gary) Busby of Cortland, Lenora (William) Farrow of McDonough, and Bruce (Nadine Kiggins) Peterson, Jr. of Norwich. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Rachael (Tony) Ryan, Brittany and Chelsea Tewksbury, William, Kristy, Joey, and Jacob Farrow, and Brian Peterson; a brother, George (Anna) Howe, Jr. of Colesville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her infant twin sisters, Jean and Joan Howe, and a sister, Janet DeForest.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Reverend Mark Giroux officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, German, at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
