Lottie Donnelly

PLYMOUTH – Lottie E. Donnelly, 86, of Plymouth, went to meet her Lord and Saviour unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of James and Lucia Burdick Georgia, Lottie was born in Otego in November of 1922. She grew up in Otego where she attended school in a one room school house. Over the years Lottie worked for the Scintilla in Sidney and for 25 years at the Norwich Shoe Co. from which she retired. On Feb. 28, 1974 in West Oneonta she married Herman S. Donnelly, who passed away Oct. 8, 1984.
Lottie, how do we begin? She was the matriarch of the family and the tie that binds forever in our hearts. Above her working out of the home she was a farmer, enjoyed her hunting for over 60 years, fishing, camping, garage sales, traveling to the southern states, stock car racing and demolition derbies. She was the Powder Puff Queen of the Morris Speedway, won demolition derbies in Syracuse where she won a trophy which was taller than her, which wasn’t hard to do.
Lottie was also an awesome cook and could make everything tasty and tender. One of her favorites was her Christmas tarts which were loved by everyone, especially her grandchildren. She was everything a family or friend could ask for and will be missed by all who knew her.
Lottie is survived by her children; Barry Hartwell of Florida, Judy Diver-Riggall of Pennsylvania, Elayna (Lucy) Thomas of Chenango Forks, Betty Sarauw of Plymouth, John J. Hartwell of Franklin, her adopted daughter Leeny Gale of Earlville; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, all too numerous to mention; nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her brother-in-law Michael Donnelly and his wife Patty of Norwich and her mother-in-law, Lillian Donnelly, also of Norwich.
Besides her husband Herman, Lottie was predeceased by her sisters Ruth, Laura, Beulah and a sister who passed away at an early age and her brothers Donald and James.
A funeral service for Lottie will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Bundy cemetery of Otego.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
Please consider memorial contributions to the Plymouth Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, Plymouth, NY 13 830.
