NORWICH – Ernest “Ernie” Brown, 71, of Norwich, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at his home.
The son of Willis and Aretta Ferguson Brown, Ernie was born in Corbet, NY in May of 1937. He grew up in the Corbet and Downsville area and attended the school in Downsville. In his early working days, Ernie had worked in Liberty for the Mike Grossman Garage. He later moved to Norwich where he made his home for many years at the Norwich Shoe Co. He was an avid Yankee’s fan and collected Yankee sports memorabilia.
Over the years, Ernie was a familiar sight in Norwich, either driving his red, white and blue car or his camper and always had his dog and faithful companion Angel by his side.
Ernie is survived by his sisters and brothers, Willis Ferguson of Oneonta, Leroy Brown of Fla., George Brown of SC, Doris Chase of Fla., Bessie Brown of Little Falls, Judy Morgan of Jeffersonville, Laura Brazee of Norwich and Bertha Ferguson of Oneonta. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and his faithful companion Angel.
Ernie was predeceased by his sister Viola Dillenbeck and brothers Robert and Charles.
There will be no formal funeral service and interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
