NORTH NORWICH – Janice G. Collier, 84, of North Norwich, passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 5, 2009, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sidney in November of 1924, Janice was the daughter of Frank and Harriet Caswell Gorham. She attended school in Sidney and was a 1944 graduate of the Sidney High School. On Jan. 5, 1946 in Hopkinsville, Kent., Janice married Vernon Thompson, who predeceased her. Janice married Erwin Collier in Norwich on Dec. 23, 1965, and moved to German Hollow, where Janice continued to live until her passing.
Janice worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill, Arrow Laundry, and lastly GLA, retiring from its successor, Simmonds Precision, in 1981 after over 20 years of employment. A quiet and reserved lady who shunned the spotlight, Janice was devoted to her family and their well-being. She had an easy-going manner, always had a smile on her face, and loved any type of family gathering where she could spend time with her children and their families.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Karen Thompson Ingraham and her husband Richard of Norwich; by her grandchildren: Kristin Ingraham Harris and husband Joseph, and Robyn Ingraham Uhlig and husband Jeffrey, all of Norwich, and Ryan Ingraham of Syracuse; and her great-grandchildren: Megan, Brooke and Zacariah Harris and Wyatt and Sierra Uhlig. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Janice was predeceased by her first husband, Vernon, in December of 1954; her second husband, Erwin, in August of 2005; and her sister and brother, Dorothy Lormore and Robert Gorham.
A memorial celebration of Janice’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. A long-time family friend, Ted Bates, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends are invited to pay their respects at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and again on Saturday from noon until 1 p.m.
