Marie Rydzy


NORWICH – Marie Elizabeth Rydzy, 87, of Norwich, passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2008, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Enfield, Conn., the daughter of Gus and Dorothy White Demetrion, Marie lived in Enfield through her school years and graduation, then relocated to Norwich in the early 1950s. On Sept.26, 1952, in St. Paul’s Church, she married Frank J. Rydzy. A woman who never worked out of her home, Marie made a career of babysitting while raising her own family. She was a quiet lady who initially kept to herself, but was outgoing and friendly once she got to know you. A talented seamstress, she loved to make dolls and teddy bears.
Marie is survived by her sons, Edward J. Rydzy and wife Diane of Sherburne, and Michael Rydzy of Richmond, Va.; her grandchildren, Fox and Raven Rydzy, and Bret, Brian, and Bobby Rice; and her brothers, Wallace Demetrion of Conn. and Floyd and Lawrence Quinn, both of Mass.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, on March 5, 1999; by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Mark Rice and her brother, Raymond.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday from St. Paul’s Church. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday at the Marion Chapel of St. Paul’s Church .
Marie’s family will be hosting a luncheon at Fred’s Inn, Norwich. Those wishing to attend please contact Ed at 316-5052.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich.
