Cynthia Harrington


GREENE – Cynthia Marie (Jones) Harrington went to be with the Lord on Dec.r 27, 2008.  She passed away in the comfort of her home with her family present after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born Oct. 18, 1932 to Robert W. and Ruth (Langdon) Jones. Born in the village of Greene, she lived her entire life within the town of Greene.
Cynthia graduated from Greene Central School in 1950 and then worked for C&U Telephone Co. as an operator until farming and children became her occupations. In 1968 she entered the workforce again with many short stints in such jobs as store clerk, seed packer, secretary, school kitchen aide, high school library aide and jr. high school library supervisor. In 1976 she earned a nurse’s aide certificate from BOCES and worked as a home health aide for the better part of the rest of her life.
Cynthia married Willard Harrington on Oct. 14, 1950. Willard (Murph) died in 2007. They are survived by six children, Dave (Deb), Dan (Nancy) of Greene, Darlea (Scott) Wiley of Monroe, GA, Brad of Greene, Jane (Glen) Vetzikian of North Syracuse, and Lisa Elmer of Greene. Also surviving are eight wonderful grandchildren, Don, Sam, Michelle, Danielle, Janelle, Tyler, Leah and Aaron; and four great grandchildren, Theadora, Mercedes, Joshua and Madelyn. Cynthia has three sisters who survive her, Elizabeth (Robert) Hazlett of Bristol, RI, Mildred (Alden) Stickney of Boothbay Harbor, ME and Mary Brandow of Greene, who lovingly devoted herself to Cynthia throughout her illness. Also surviving are several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, Cynthia was pre-deceased by her parents, as well as her brother Robert (Dutchie) Jones, her sister Esther M. Bottle, an infant brother Kermit and a young sister, Elinor.
Cynthia was an active member of the Central Baptist Church in Greene for over 60 years, serving the Lord in many capacities. She spent many hours volunteering for various causes - Greene Area Churches food tent on Labor Day, The GAC Food Pantry, Senior Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. She was a charter member of TOPS Chapter NY1120, Greene.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Central Baptist Church on South Chenango Street, Greene.  Rev. William Jay Zaremba will officiate.  Friends are invited to call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
Gifts in Cynthia’s memory may be made to the Central Baptist Missions Fund, 39 South Chenango St., Greene; Lourdes Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
The arrangements are entrusted to the Kennedy Funeral Home, Greene.
