Leola Lindsay


COLUMBUS – Leola M. Lindsay, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on Bell Road in the Town of Columbus on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006.
She was born on July 24, 1909 in Brookfield, a daughter of Charles and Harriet Greenman Davis. Her childhood was spent in the Clayville area where she received her education in the local schools. On May 30, 1927, she married Roy D. Lindsay, who predeceased her on Sept. 15, 1996.
During World War II, Leola worked at the Scintilla Plant, Sidney, then at the Egg processing plant, New Berlin. She later transferred to Kraft Foods in South Edmeston and retired from there in 1971. She was a member of the Columbus Community Church and was very active in the Ladies Aid. Leola was the oldest member of her church as well as being the oldest resident in the Town of Columbus. She was noted for her beautiful crochet work, making doilies, stand scarves and the like as gifts for her family and friends. Leola also had a large teapot collection of over 230 teapots which she was very proud of. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her five children and their spouses, Joyce Waffle, William (Al) and Margaret Lindsay, Verna and Allan Fauss, all of New Berlin, Allen Lindsay and companion Sandra Davis of Hubbardsville and Elden and Marge Lindsay of Gilbertsville. Also surviving are one sister, Florence Ray of Edmeston, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leola was predeceased by two grandsons, Roy Fairchild and Michael Lindsay; one sister, Laurel Pierce and five brothers, Kenneth, Stanley, Claude, Otho and Clarence Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Columbus Community Church. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service with Reverend Stephen Reese officiating. Interment will follow at the Unadilla Forks Cemetery.
