Ida Loomis

NORWICH – Ida M. Loomis, 80, of Bourbon Street, Norwich, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 in Upstate Medical Center of Syracuse, from injuries sustained in the same fire that took her husband, Donald, on Dec. 7, 2008.
The daughter of Claude and Celia (Woods) Manwarren, Ida was born in September of 1928 in Oxford. She graduated from Guilford High School in 1947, then attended the Lowell Business School, later working for Shop Vac in Norwich and Keith Clarke in Sidney. On Christmas Eve, 1950, she married Donald K. Loomis, her husband of almost 58 years. A homemaker for most of her life, Ida loved flowers, especially iris and lilac, and would often enjoy taking a walk in the park where she lived. Even though she had no “official standing” she often could be found, along with her daughter Chrissy, at the Chenango County Historical Society museum helping her husband Don taking care of the museum property.
Ida is survived by her children: Gary Loomis and wife Christine of Forest, Va., Larry Loomis and companion Deb Marotta of Norwich, and Terry and Christine Loomis, both of Norwich; and by her grandchildren: Elizabeth Wilson and husband Brad, Jonathan, Brian and Paul Loomis. Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Emily and Keagen Loomis, Paul and Aveline Loomis; her sisters: Geraldine Ireland of Bainbridge, Freida Alcott and husband Edward, also of Bainbridge, Alta Uhlig of Charleston, S.C., Phyllis Castle and husband Millard of Bainbridge, and Linda Tragakis of Ipswich, Mass.; and by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ida was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara, and brother, Alvin Manwarren.
Joint funeral services for Don and Ida will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Norwich will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Please consider memorial contributions to the Chenango County Historical Society, 45 Rexford St., Norwich, NY 13815.
