Russell Todd


NEW BERLIN – Russell W. Todd, 93, New Berlin. passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2008 in Cooperstown.
Russell was born on March 25, 1915 in Mount Upton, the son of Gerald and Ethel Todd. Growing up in the New Berlin area, Russell graduated from New Berlin Central School in 1932.
On Nov. 18, 1941 in Savana, he was married to Elizabeth Palmiter, who survives. From 1938 until his retirement in 1985, Russell worked as the owner and operator of the New Berlin Clothes Shop. Russ also served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion where he served as Commander, a charter member of the New Berlin Rotary since 1947 and an honorary member of the New Berlin Fire Department. He was also a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and Phoebus Lodge # 82 of New Berlin. He served the community as a member of the Village Board and the Library Board in New Berlin and was a Boy Scout Leader and Little League Coach.
Russ loved playing baseball and was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, Russell is survived by his children: Russell William (Carol) Todd of Sebring, Fla., Gerrie (Douglas) Miller of Verona and Michael Todd of New Berlin. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael Todd, Stephen and Rhonda Todd, Kelly and Peter Thurber, Ryan and Paul Miller, Karrie and Damien Southwell, Matthew and Morgan Todd and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Russell will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in New Berlin. The Rev. Charles Taylor will officiate. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in New Berlin.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP.
