Margaret Ireland


NORWICH – Margaret N. “Peg” Ireland, 88, “22 years young,” long time Norwich, resident passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2008 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Peg was born in Wilmington, Del. in February of 1920, the daughter of William and Miranda “Myra” Nickle Murphy. She grew up in Delaware City and was a graduate of their local schools. On Sept. 7, 1956 in Guilford, she married Milton D. “Rascal” Ireland, who passed away Sept. 5, 1989. For more than 40 years, Peg had been employed by Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals and its successors, where she worked on various products.
Peg was the family matriarch, their best friend and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved a good game of bingo and could be found on a weekly basis at the reservation doing just that.
Peg is survived by her children: Peggy Seiler of Norwich, Donna (Ted) Clarke of Norwich and Donald Richard (Peggy) Anthony of Oxford; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her best friend Mary Niles of Norwich. Besides her husband Milton, she was predeceased by a great granddaughter Jessica Sylstra, her sisters Barbara, Elsie, Elizabeth and Nancy and her brothers William, Frank, Jack and Kent.
Funeral services for Peg will be held on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Connolly, pastor and teacher of the United Church Christ First Congregational of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery of Bainbridge.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:30 until the time of the service at 3:30 p.m.
