SMYRNA – June M. Burrs, 82, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 in South New Berlin. She has returned to Heaven, dying in her sleep with family members at her side.
Born June 6, 1926 at Farley Hungerford Castle in England, June was the daughter of Francis and Rose (Sims) Wilkins. She attended school in England as a child and immigrated to the United States during the late 1940s where she started farming operations. During the 1970s, June was hired by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department as their chief cook. Later in life she transferred to the Chenango County Department of Social Services where she worked as a caseworker until her retirement. In her retirement years, June sailed on many cruise ships to the Caribbean where she toured many of the islands there.
June is survived by two sons, Hon. Gerrard Burrs of Smyrna and Frank Burrs and his wife, Ada, of South New Berlin; a brother, Derrick Wilkins and his wife, Emily and a sister, Maureen Speers and her husband, Michael. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Les Wilkins.
It was June’s wish that there be no funeral services or calling hours. She asked that everyone remember her as she was in life.
