Elaine Nober


GUILFORD –  Elaine H. Nober, 68, of 242 Miller Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at home after a long battle with ovarian cancer. 
She was born on Feb. 14, 1940, in Callicoon, the daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Johnson) Meckle.
She grew up in Lava, N.Y. and attended the Narrowsburg schools. On Sept. 9, 1955, in Lake Huntington, Elaine married her high school sweetheart, Robert A. Nober, who survives.
Also surviving are:  sons, Robert (Penny) Nober, Kevin (Tami) Nober and John (Barbara) Nober of Guilford and daughters, Deborah (William) Sumner of  Norwich and Elaura Nober of Guilford; brother Darrell (Ellie) Meckle of Purcelville, Va., daughter-in-law, Holly Nober of Beach Lake, PA, brother and sister-in-laws Allan (Eleanor) Nober of Narrowsburg  and Raymond (Jan) Nober of Salt Spring, Fla., sisters-in-law Ilene Meckle, Narrowsburgh and Laura Meckle of Damascus, Pa.; grandchildren, Jill Whaley and Stephanie Sumner of Rochester, Charles (Lindsay) Nober, Jr of Honesdale, Pa., April (Nick) Henshaw and Ashley Nober of Beach Lake, Pa., Robert, Chelsea, Samantha, Brianna, Jenny and Johnathan Nober of Guilford; great-grandchildren:  Alaina Whaley, Baileigh, Peyton and Mylee Henshaw.  Several special nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeceased by two sons, Shane on Sept. 26, 1992 and Charles on March 3, 2007; in-laws Charles and Myrtle Nober; sisters Marie Earley, Gladys Monington and brothers Fred (Buddy) Meckle and Edward Meckle.
For the most part, Elaine was a stay-at-home Mom who enjoyed her family along with baking, canning, sewing and knitting. She always had coffee waiting for family and friends when they dropped by. She loved the mountains and had special memories of her trips to Virginia and Idaho. She also had a natural ear for music and enjoyed playing the organ and accordion for the family.
She was a member of the Holmesville Baptist Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.  Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service which will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
