NORWICH – Mary Jane Babcock, formerly of Sunset Drive and Golden Age Apartments, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, 2008 at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home, where she had made her home for the past several years.
Mary had lived most of her life in Norwich, attended the Norwich schools and graduated from the West New York High School of West New York, N.J. She had worked for many years for the Norwich Mills and its successor Champion Products Inc. of Norwich. Mary was a longtime member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church of Norwich, as well as a member of the VFW Post #2782 Ladies Auxiliary.
Born in Norwich, Mary was the daughter of Anthony and Eva (Palmer) Shecton. On Jan. 17, 1945 in Norwich, she married William J. Babcock, who passed away Feb. 2, 1990.
Mary is survived by her niece Kathy Guin and her nephew Joseph Shecton, both of Winfield, La., and close friend Jan Coleman of Norwich. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive. Besides her husband Bill, Mary was predeceased by her sister Frances Oeinck, her brother Robert Shecton and her half-brother, Anthony Shecton.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (please note the change of time) from St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
