Alma Centrella


NORWICH – Alma Grace Centrella, 76, of Norwich, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2008, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.
Alma was born in March of 1932 in Bristol, Vt., the daughter of Cloise and Dorothy Dittmer Murray. She attended school in Bristol, eventually married, and moved to the state of Maine. Alma later moved to New York state, settling in the Newburgh area to raise her family. It was at this point she decided to further her education by attending nursing school in Poughkeepsie, graduating in 1970 as an LPN. Alma then moved to the Norwich area, where she worked as an LPN for the New York State Veterans’ Home and Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Alma is survived by her husband, Anthony Centrella of Boston, Mass.; her children, Darlene Dunphy, Gail Dunphy, Josephine (Duane) Golden all of Norwich, and Richard Dunphy of Euless, Tx.; her grandchildren, Kelly (Philip) Kasmarcik of Norwich, Kassandra and Tenley Golden both of Norwich, and Brenden and Bryson Dunphy of Euless, Tx. and her great-grandson Seth Kasmarcik. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy LaRose of Bristol, Vt. and her brother Cloise Murray, Jr. of Orlando, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Alma was predeceased by her husbands Richard Dunphy, Walter VonVoorhis and Clifford Angle and his sister, Vivian Howard.
Memorial services for Alma will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall of Norwich. There will be no calling hours.
