William Mccook


NORWICH – William R. “Bill” McCook, 88, former Norwich resident, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 18, 2008 in the St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in the Brighton section of Boston, Mass.
Bill was born in September of 1920 in Dearborn, Mich., the son of Frank and Mildred Randall McCook. He grew up in the Walton area and was a graduate of the Walton High School. He served his country for six years in the Army Air Corps and on June 23, 1951, he married Madalene Alger, who passed away on Aug. 25, 2003. Moving to Norwich in 1955, Bill and Madalene made their home on Elm Street for over 50 years. He was a long time member of the Christ Lutheran Church, where he had been active for many years. Bill was also very active in the local Boy Scouts, having served as a leader and helping with many scouting activities.
Bill was employed for over 30 years as an electrical engineer, first with GLA and then Simmonds Precision.
Bill is survived by his son Matthew (Julene) McCook of Boston and his granddaughter Jennifer McCook.
Besides his wife Madalene, Bill was predeceased by his sister Lorna E. Fancher.
Funeral services for Bill will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday from the Christ Lutheran Church of Norwich. The Rev. Thomas Olson, pastor, will officiate. Interment with military rites will be at a later date in the Prospect Hill Cemetery of Sidney.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
