Laura Tumilowicz


NORWICH – Laura Tumilowicz, 73, of Norwich, passed away Sunday evening, Nov. 16, 2008 in the Wilson Regional Medical Center of Johnson City following a brief illness.
Laura was born in May of 1935 in Warsaw, Poland, the daughter of Matthew and Wanda Wolter. She came to the United States in 1952, settling in New York City, where she later met and married Nikodem “Nick” Tumilowicz in 1954. In September of 1958, Laura and Nick came to the Norwich area where they purchased a farm on the Burdick-Medbury Road. Over the years, with hard work and dedication, they built the farm into a beautiful and prosperous farm. A self taught seamstress, Laura soon became well known for her masterful work and had worked for the Carol Ann Shop in Norwich.
Laura is survived by her husband, Nikodem “Nick” of Norwich, her children, Lili Tumilowicz-Headley and her husband Ronald of Elmira, Robert (Valerie) Tumilowicz of Norwich and Henry (Darlene) Tumilowicz also of Norwich; her grand children, Adam and Alex Tumilowicz, Lita and Nikkolas DiPetta, Danielle Tumilowicz, Henry Tumilowicz, Jr., Samantha Tumilowicz and Amanda Tumilowicz. She is also survived by her brothers John (Mary) Wolter and Carl (Helga) Wolter. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Wolter.
Funeral services for Laura will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday from the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall of Norwich.
Friends may call from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday evening at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
