Elizabeth Hosford


NORWICH – Elizabeth D. “Bette” Hosford, 93, formerly of 44 Henry Street, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford.
Bette was born in Long Lake on Feb. 1, 1915.  She was the daughter of Arthur James and Jennie Mary (Gochie) Duane.  She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1934 and then received her Registered Nursing degree from the Wilson Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.  Bette worked at Chenango Memorial Hospital and the WRC Home in Oxford and was an Industrial Nurse at the former General Laboratories in Norwich.
Bette was a member of St. Paul’s Church and a member of the former Nurses Club of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
On Oct. 14, 1940, in St. Paul’s Church with Rev. Charles Coveny officiating, Bette married Gordon C. Hosford who died on July 5, 1967.  She is survived by her children and their spouses, Margaret “Peg” and Howard Cogswell of Breezewood, Pa., Thomas and Deborah Hosford of Norwich and Gordon and Barbara Hosford of Sidney; five grandchildren, Caryn Danchenko, Debbie Pierce, Desmond Hosford, Erica Elliot and Matthew Hosford; eleven great grandchildren, Tate Hosford, Audrey, Mia and Nora Elliot, Luke and Elizabeth Pierce, Josh, Nicole and Ian Cheny, and Cami and Kylie Danchenko; and great-great granddaughter, Ember Cheny.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  Bette was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Hosford and a son Robert Hosford.
Funeral services for Bette will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Wilson Funeral Home.  Burial will follow the service in St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
