Martin Lasswell


NORWICH – Mr. Martin “Doc” Jesse Lasswell, 57, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mr. Lasswell was born Nov. 19, 1950 in Norwich, and was the son of Concetta Mirabito Lasswell of New York and the late Jesse Junior Lasswell. Mr. Lasswell was a graduate of Central High School in Norwich, and was in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Lasswell was employed by De Jong Enterprises as truck driver. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Evangelical Methodist Church.He was a gifted musician, who used his talents in church and for his own enjoyment. He was also a member of SASS (Single Action Shooter’s Society) Gunpowder Creek Regualtors, which was one of his great pleasures in life. On May 8, 1978, Doc was married to Sherry Campbell Lasswell, who survives.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Lasswell is survived by two sons, Matt Lasswell of the home, Mark Christopherson (Dawn) of New York, two daughters, Melissa Bell (Mark) of New York, Melinda Jones (Danny Ray) of New York, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, four sisters, Rosalind Toshach (John) of Georgia, Andrea Ryan (Steve), Gina Williams (Bruce), Bernadette Jackson (Paul) all of New York and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt.Sinai Evangelical Methodist Church with Rev. David Walters and Rev. Dean Lavender officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
