Donald Hensley


NORWICH – Donald G. Hensley, formerly of Norwich, passed away on Nov. 5, 2008 in Kissimmee, Fla. after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Born Jan. 16, 1939 in Limestone, Tenn., the son of Robert and Fannie Hensley, Don was one of 11 children. He moved to Norwich from Tennessee in his childhood. He attended Norwich schools and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960.
On Oct. 22, 1960, he married Sally Cleveland in Norwich, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Donna Anderson and her husband David of Norwich, Todd Hensley and his fiancee Julie Baisden of Lynchburg, Va., and Andy James and his wife Tyann of Pahrump, Nev. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Wilson and Brooke Anderson of Norwich, and Indiana James of Pahrump, Nev. He is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Clark of Norwich, Betty Alexander of Aiken, S.C., and Patricia Samsel of Woodstock, Ga. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Nellie Phillips, Maude Powell, Suella Davis, and Isabel LaShomb; and his brothers Denny Hensley, Clarence Hensley and Bobby Hensley.
Donald was employed by GLA in Norwich in 1961, and remained employed through the many transitions of the company, eventually retiring from Unison Industries in 1998. Don and Sally then moved to Kissimmee, Fla. Until shortly before his death, he was employed by Qualtest in Orlando, Fla.
It was Don’s request that there be no funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Comforter, 480 West Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714, or your local SPCA.
