NORWICH – Mary A. Smith, 67, of Norwich, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at her home.
Mary was born in Nashua, N.H. in June of 1941, the daughter of Leonard A. and Pauline C. Caldwell Tyler. She was a 1959 graduate of the South New Berlin School and furthered her education by attending Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, where she graduated with a degree in business administration. In the 1970s and 80s, she was employed by Valley View Manor Nursing Home and later worked for the Community Work Shop as a supervisor for the handicapped.
A very happy, generous but private lady, Mary always enjoyed taking care of the elderly and mentally challenged individuals. Throughout her life she loved all aspects of nature and could often be found reading a good book. She also enjoyed old movies and befriended many stray animals. Over the years Mary had been involved with the Episcopal Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and close friends. May she find comfort and peace in God’s arms.
Mary is survived by her children: Patrick (Martha) Flores and Melanie Travis all of Norwich; Vicky (Richard) Marcellus of Boston, Mass. and David Marks of Brisben; her grandchildren: Cindel M. Flores, Marishka N. Flores, Jolesa C. Flores, Dikeedrin P. Flores, Iesha D. Flores, Montana R. Flores, Jennifer A. Winter, Fredrick F. Winter, Eric M. Winter, Jasmine Marcellus, Eli Marks and Richard Marcellus, as well as five great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters: Agnes Tyler of Coming, Carol Hinrich of San Jose, Calif.; her brothers, Leonard “Len” (Jean) Tyler of New Berlin and Charles E. Tyler; and friend Marcy Adler of Glen Rock, N.J. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Donald K. Smith, who passed away several years ago.
Memorial services for Mary will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
