Jean Dolgos


NORWICH – E. Jean Dolgos, 82, of Norwich, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 27, 2008 in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home of Norwich.
Jean was born in Horton, W.Va., in March of 1926, the daughter of Ralph Scott and Margaret Ann Lambert Dolly. At the age of four, Jean moved with her family to the Sherburne area where she grew up on the family farm. She attended the Sherburne schools and graduated with the class of 1942. Jean soon gained employment with the Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceutical Company and its successors. Her career would span a period of 51 years. She first worked in the consumer product division and then the quality assurance area in North Norwich, from which she retired in 1992 at the age of 66.
A very active and independent lady, Jean was always on the go. Her family and work always came first. She was a 59-year member of the United Church of Christ First Congregational, where she had served as a Deacon. Over the years Jean had spent countless hours working on her family genealogy. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Following her retirement she loved to travel especially to W. Va. with her sisters and brothers-in-law.
Jean is survived by her children, Claudia Joan (Daniel) Brooks of Oklahoma and Jay (Judy) Dolgos of Norwich; her grandchildren Athena Dolgos; Scott, Byron; Matthew and Adam Westerby and several great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Erma Edwards of Mass. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Maxine Kublick, Mildred Baldwin, Viva Smith and Levine White and her brothers, Dale and David Dolly.
Memorial services for Jean will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday from the chapel of the United Church of Christ First Congregational of Norwich. The Rev. Joseph Connolly, pastor and teacher, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery of DeRuyter. There will be no calling hours.
