Edwin Quinby


 EARLVILLE – Edwin John Quinby, 92, formerly of Earlville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 at the Gilmour Healthcare Facility, Norwich.
He was born March 12, 1916 in Englewood, N.J., a son of William D. and Josephine Yost Quinby, and received his education in Englewood and Closter, N.J. schools. He married Mildred Shaulas in Sherburne, on Sept. 25, 1940. Ed was a tractor trailer driver, and then the dispatcher for Hunt Club Dog Foods (now Standard Brands) in Sherburne until his retirement in 1978. He had previously been a farmer and loved working outdoors. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a keen ability to fix things and enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors. He and Mildred loved to travel and had made several trips out West. They had also wintered in Florida for nine years.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred of Norwich; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Franklyn Carney of Norwich; Joy and Danny Despins of Tucson, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Holly and Kenneth Keeler of New Fairfield, Conn.; Kelly Walker of North Miami Beach, Fla.; Diane and John Mitchell of Topton, N.C.; Jack and Liz Feitsma of Clermont, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Stacey, Sally, John, Danielle and Peter; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Goeltz on May 4, 2005, and three brothers, William, Alfred and Francis Quinby.
In keeping with Ed’s wishes, services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville.
