Marshall Chapman


OXFORD – Marshall Arlen Chapman 53, of East Palatka, Fla. (formerly of Oxford) passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka, Fla.
Marshall was born on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1954 in Lexington, Kentucky to  William and Jeanette Chapman. Marshall is preceded in death by his father, William Chapman and grandmother, Ida Palmer. He was of the 1973 graduating class of Oxford Academy and Central School in Oxford, and attended Jacksonville University. Marshall worked for The Norwich Shoe Company in Norwich, New York. After moving to Florida, he was the General Manager for 18 years of the Lake’s Housing Center in East Palatka and was a member of the King of Putnam County Dart League. He enjoyed playing sports during his youth, he was blessed with a natural “fastball” that allowed him to try-out for the St. Louis Cardinal’s, he was active in: Oxford Town Team Baseball, Norwich CVSL fast pitch softball, Norwich YMCA basketball League and he was an avid horseshoe thrower and pool player. Mr. Chapman’s best friend and dog was“Little Earl.”
Marshall leaves to mourn his mother and step-father James and Jeanette Chrystie; wife, Terry O’Berry of East Palatka, Florida; niece: Robin Davis of Palatka, Florida; stepson, Kyle R. O’Berry and companion Amanda Curlee of East Palatka; grandchildren: Lyndsie O’Berry, Hannah Curlee, and Kahi Curlee; great-nephew, Mario Morris; great-niece, Heather Thomas; brothers: Robbin Chapman, of Boston, Massachusetts and Richard Chapman and wife Penny of Chicago, Illinois; step-brothers:  Joseph Chrystie and wife Beverly of Oxford, Jackie Chrystie of St. Augustine, Florida, and Terri Chrystie and wife Sheila of Ocala, Florida; nephews and nieces: Richard, Chapman, Jonathan Chapman, Andrew Chapman, Michael Chrystie and his wife Melissa, Sara Chrystie, Ann Maria Chrystie, Stephie-Nicole Chrystie, and Morgan Chrystie; many friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Marshall’s life was held Monday, Oct. 27 at Watts Funeral Home Chapel in San Mateo with Kyle O’Berry officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watts Funeral Homes, Inc., San Mateo, Florida.
