Robert Jewett


NORWICH – Robert C. Jewett, 85, of Norwich, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2008 in the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.
The son of Cecile and Bertha (Fetrow) Jewett, Bob was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, in March of 1923. He lived in Iowa through his childhood and attended the local schools, then left Iowa to serve his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Washington, D.C., where he served with the O. S. S. On May 20,1944, in Garden City, L.I., he married Roseann Craven. By trade, Bob was a plumber. During his years living in New York State, he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Locals 691 and 112, of Binghamton. Bob was an avid snowmobiler and was a member of the NRA. While living in Norwich, he belonged to the Norwich Elks Lodge BPOE 1222, the Knickerbocker Golf Club, the South New Berlin Horseshoe Club, and the American Legion. For a time he had served as scoutmaster for Troop 64, Boy Scouts of American, and as a trustee of the pension fund of Local 691 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.
Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Roseann Jewett of Norwich; by his sons: Robert C. Jewett Jr. and wife Zivia of New York City, Terrence J. Jewett and wife Elsbeth of Johnson City, and Bradley P. Jewett of Ridgefield, Conn. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Kern and husband Dale of Danville, Iowa, and his grandchildren: Collin Jewett of Chicago, Jessica Jewett of Jersey City, Tully Jewett and Ava Jewett, both of New York City, and Maxwell Jewett of Ridgefield. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Franklin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bob 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Bartholomew’s Church. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, will officiate.
Interment with full military rites will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
