Ruth Purdy


 HUBBARDSVILLE – Ruth Chapin Purdy, 75, of Hubbardsville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Norwich.
She was born May 29, 1933 in Utica, a daughter of Conrad and Ethel (Haight) Chapin. She was a life long resident of the Hamilton area and a graduate of Hamilton High School. As a teenager, she worked at the Hamilton Theater. On July 20, 1951, Ruth married Joseph R. Purdy in Hamilton. Following her marriage, she worked at the Grand Union and the College Apartments while helping her husband on the farm. She and Joe also plowed snow, owned two gas stations for many years, and dealt in antiques in Bouckville. Joe predeceased her on May 17, 2006. Ruth loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She was also an avid reader and knitter.
Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Krisko of Greene; Joan and Bruce Burdick of Hamilton; her grandchildren: Kristy Wandle; Joseph and Kari Burdick; Jill Burdick; Joanne, Andrea and Joshua Krisko; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jean Chapin of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Jean Allaire of Clinton; special cousins, Doug and Nora Purdy of Hamilton; a dear friend, Judy Ray of Sherburne; and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
Burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Hamilton will be at the convenience of the family.
Ruth’s family wishes to thank Valley View Manor Nursing Home and Hospice of Chenango County for the wonderful care they gave her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
