Gertrude Miller


NORWICH – Gertrude Miller, 83, life-long Norwich resident, passed away early Thursday morning, Sept. 18, 2008, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided since February.
The daughter of Edward and Helen (Brown) Wilber, Gertrude was born in July of 1925. Growing up in Norwich, she attended the local schools and, in Sidney on April 14, 1944, married Howard W. Miller. She continued to make her home in Norwich, where she raised her family. In her free time, Gertrude enjoyed doing crossword and word search puzzles, fishing and camping, and playing bingo.
Gertrude is survived by her children and their spouses: Louis and Debbie Miller, Carl and Rebecca Miller, Ricky Miller, Bruce and Victoria Miller, all of Norwich; Ronny and Cardella Miller of Florida, and Jacky and Mickey Miller of Ilion; Yvonne and Gary Miller of Oneonta, and Sally and Rudy Kingsbury, Alice Nightengale, Flora Davis, and Roberta Collins, all of Norwich; and by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers: Louis Wilber and wife Doris of Sherburne, Billy Wilber of Norwich, and Wilford Wilber of New Berlin. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in December of 1978; by her sons, Howard Miller Jr. and David Miller; her grandson, James Miller; great-grandson Roger Miller, Jr.; and by her sisters Rose, Ethel, Lula and Evelyn.
Funeral services for Gertrude will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Hinman, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from noon until the service at 2 p.m.
