William Scanlon Sr.


NORWICH – William M. Scanlon, 63, of Fair Street, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at his home.
Born in Norwich on July 30, 1945, Bill was the son of William H. and Mary (Scecchitano) Scanlon.  Following his schooling in Norwich, he moved to California to find work and eventually spent two years in Arizona before returning to Norwich in 1989 to care for his children.  He moved to Binghamton in 1991 to work there.
Bill was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and of the Elk’s Lodge.
He is survived by his mother, Mary, now living in Syracuse; two sons, William M. Ober (Scanlon) of Norwich and Charles E. Deiss (Scanlon), also of Norwich; a daughter, Brenda L. Scanlon of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Ryan Scanlon of Norwich and Nicole Scanlon of North Carolina; two sisters, Jean Jeffries and Jane Viencek, both of Syracuse.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Pat Wiggins.
Funeral services for Bill will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Wilson Funeral Home.  Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
